Home / Partial Nail Avulsion

Partial nail avulsion is a minor surgical procedure used to treat conditions like ingrown toenails, localized infections, or chronic nail inflammation. Under local anesthesia, the affected portion of the nail is carefully lifted and removed, often along the lateral edge. In recurrent or severe cases, the corresponding part of the nail matrix may be treated chemically (matricectomy) to prevent regrowth of the problematic nail edge. The toe is then dressed with sterile gauze and kept clean. This procedure provides quick relief from pain and infection while preserving the majority of the nail, with a low risk of recurrence when combined with matricectomy.
